Aim...shoot, miss.
Aim...shoot, hit.
Aim...shoot, miss
Aim...shoot, miss
Aim...shoot, hit.
Aim...shoot, hit.

Al sighed as she reloaded Armis, the single revolver she held with both of her hands, it felt a bit heavy as Al realized she desperately needed to practice her shooting skills again, reloading was fine as Al had already refilled the gun while the barrel was still smoking, but her aim really did suffer.
She could just use her semblance instead of her guns for ranged attacks, so her motivation to practice was a little low, but it was a necessary evil, her dad didn't make these weapons for her just to have her toss them aside like trash.
Al took a deep breath as she spun Armis around her index finger, as she took out her second revolver, spinning both in tandem, before she gripped them tight, her foot on the pedal that would tell the target to start moving.
Al let go of the pedal, as she fired shot after shot, first her left hand pulled the trigger than her right hand, this way she could focus on handling the recoil for one gun while already taking aim with the other.
It was a quick process, and Al had unloaded all twelve bullets in around twenty seconds.
She looked at the target and grinned, chuckling under her mask as 7 of 12 shots had found their mark.
Happy with herself, Al spun her revolvers again, bringing them up to her face and holding them still as she blew away the smoke from both barrels.

Al continued to practice, always interchanging whether she was firing with both guns or just one and which hand she was using to hold the single weapon, she had at least somewhat found a rhythm again but really did need a lot more practice.

What a nice day it had been.

Classes felt short. No accidents.

Nothing was on the menu for tonight, the staff had a few days before the first meeting of the new semester. Her equipment had already been prepped, her curriculum outline had been submitted, and it was still too early for grading papers. That left her with a rare commodity... Time.

The firing range, one of the few places a Professor like herself could come after classes to let loose. They were all Huntsmen, after all, they still had skills to keep sharp in the event they needed to be used, there was no telling when that might be. But more than that, there were other advantages to being here. Mingling with students was normally difficult in a conventional sense, and though she had her own free time, Honeydew knew that her peers didn't necessarily have the same luxury. So, she'd chosen her afternoon activity with these factors in mind.

Along the firing line, a couple students practiced their shots, but down the line, all the way at the far end, there came a small sound, a click, and the vague static of an old music tape spooling up, then finally, a song began to play, upsetting the quiet in between the gunfire with a small ditty carefully selected for its atmospheric potential.

♬In this dirty old part of the city
Where the sun refuse to shine
People tell me there ain't no use in tryin'♪

The metallic noise of a bolt being slammed into place punctuated the bassline, and Honeydew stepped into the firing stall on the end of the line, shouldering a heavy Atlas-made assault rifle, and taking aim.

The song continued:

♪Now my girl you're so young and pretty
And one thing I know is true
You'll be dead before your time is due♫

A few more notes of the bass line thrummed by, and just as the music picked up, she fired her first shot.

BANG...! Ping!

And again.

BANG...! Ping!

And again, and again, one after another, the crack of her rifle followed by the sharp sound of the steel target she was shooting at echoed through the chamber. Honeydew had often been told her personal training regimen was too "old school" because she didn't use the holographic targets that the school had set up here, but she didn't mind the criticism.

Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping!

It was just too satisfying of a sound. With every shot came a successful hit, square to the center of her target, despite its rapid movement side-to-side, and they landed in such a rapid tempo that the moving target shook on the pole that supported it, unable to stay very upright as the bullets slammed into it too quick for it to shake off the resulting force before the next one found its mark. When her magazine was empty, in practiced fashion, the Warrior-Teacher extended her finger, dropped the empty mag to the floor, and replaced it with such speed that there was barely any downtime between the last shot of the first magazine and the first shot of the second. She started to have a little fun with it, firing slower now, in time with the song she was playing. Why not? It made it a little more humorous. She counted as she fired. Ten... Fifteen...

As soon as she hit the half-way mark of the thirty-round clip, she unloaded it.

BANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANG!

Between the gunfire and the resulting ringing of the steel target, the whole firing range got quite a deal louder for just a couple seconds. When she was finished, she cocked her hip, pointed the barrel of the gun at the ground, and grinned, looking at the target. It was dented to all hell, now. Ahhh, nostalgic, and a great way to blow off some steam. She almost didn't register the fact that a small gaggle of students had stopped what they were doing and were now staring at her.

Al had just reloaded her revolvers, spinning them a little as she took a deep breath, she had been at this for a while now, but she just wasn't improving, her lack of depth perception held her back she just could not see where the target was going to be.
Al just sighed and holstered her revolvers back into the inside of her cloak.
She turned to leave until she noticed a few of the other students moving towards a certain location, what was going on for everyone to be this excited ?
Al followed the crowd, which stopped at one of the old firing stall's, Al didn't really see anything as the students in front of her were too tall for her to see.
Though she could hear rapid fire shots hitting the metal target in an amazingly quick and consistent manner, no wonder the other students went here, this person must be an amazing shot to hit her target this consistently while rapid firing.
As Al was lost in thought the crowd dispersed, leaving just Al and a few other students standing there.
And Al finally got to see who this sharp-shooter was, oh she was way too old and plain looking to be a student...a professor, yes this must be Professor Monarch.
Al had seen her picture and been told a few things about her, she had barely recognized her outside her work attire.
Al shook of this surprise and headed a bit closer to take a look at the professor's handy work.
She had completely demolished the target, it was bent out of shape and barely holding onto the metal pole it was attached too, with a metallic shattering noise the target fell of the pole and on the ground of the firing stall.
Al just looked between the target and the professor, she offered a silent prayer for anyone or anything that ended up on the opposite side of Monarch's gun and the poor guy that would have to maintain these old firing stalls.
Al would take a mental note to practice more, she would never archive a result like this due to the caliber of her weapons, but she could at least try and bring her aim at this level, Al was about to turn and leave yet stopped.
Maybe this professor could help her ?
They did use very different weapons, but it was worth a shot.
Yet Al froze up, how should she address the professor ?!
So instead of walking up to the professor and talking to her, Al just stood there, a few feet away from the firing stall, looking at her.

Honeydew had to admit to herself that she felt a little better after dumping two mags of seven-six-two down range. It always had a way of getting her negativity out. She'd not been stressed, per se, lately, but it eased the tension in her muscles anyway, made for a clearer mind. Plus, since she'd turned on the tunes, she was enjoying the jams as much as any student might with their own, newer music. The classics, though, that's where it was at.

Of course, she'd expected to turn a few heads with the students, but after they'd had their fill of watching her nail every shot, and got a good look at the aftermath of her ammo-dump, they mostly went back to what they were doing. But that left one curious little student left, a kid in a mask, standing there, staring at her. It might've been creepy to somebody with less of a constitution than the acclaimed Miss Monarch, but for Honeydew, anything less than a terrifying huge beast probably wouldn't phase her in the slightest, and this was no different.

She set her rifle down, and turned her head toward Al, tilting it slightly and offering her a warm smile.

"Hello there. I'm Professor Monarch, I'm overseeing the firing range today, did you need help with anything?" she asked in as sweet of a voice as was really possible after the display she'd shown, in fact it might've seemed even more out of place than a masked student staring at her did. Something about deadly force and friendly words didn't quite go hand in hand, she thought idly. She looked the student over, noticing her weapons. Ah, a gunslinger type, then? Well that was at least not what she might expect with a visage like Al's, she'd have pegged this one as more of a sword or axe user than one with a penchant with revolvers. Still, she had to credit the style. Revolvers were one of her favorites.

"I see you went with pistols. Always good. A forty-five'll stop Grimm better than any rifle can at close range. What calibur are you packin'?" she asked, not ashamed in the slightest that her light country accent had started to seep in to her speech. It usually did when she talked guns.

Al almost jumped a little as the professor turned to her, why had she addressed especially her, did she really stand out this much with her mask ?!
Oh wait, the crowd was gone, Al was so sunken into her thoughts that she did not notice the crowd surrounding the professor dispersing.
Well, she did come here to ask for help with her training and now had the professor's undivided attention, it was probably a good idea to use this opportunity.

Oh, she had already noticed her gun's, thank the gods that would make this segway a lot easier, she should probably just talk about Arcum a bit first.
Al took one of the revolvers out of her cloak with a spinning motion, halting it right in her grip.
"Ah, this is Arcum, or one of the two. Both are 9 mm M'am, my dad made them with a professional hunters input...they can also transform into a form I actually prefer."
Al said as she flipped a switch and the revolver she held straightened, with the magazine flattening and transforming into a sword hilt and the barrel stretching and flattening out into a blade.
But Al quickly undid the transformation, as Miss Monarch seemed much more interested in guns.

"Uhm, Miss Monarch I wanted to ask if I could get some help with target practice, I tried everything but my aim just won't improve, so perhaps I wanted to ask an experienced huntress like you for help."
Al continued to speak in a very stiff and nervous manner, clutch g her revolver closer to her armored chest, it wouldn't take a telepath to figure out that Al was a bit afraid of the older woman and her response to her request.

Honeydew had always liked the weaponry aspect of being a Huntress. Ever since she'd learned to shoot with her dad's old ranch rifle back on the farm, she'd had a thing for guns. Odd, considering her actual preference for weaponry in a real fight leaned more toward melee weapons. She found that most of the time, bullets were unreliable against Aura. Grimm, though? Those were no match.

Her demeanor was relaxed while she eyed the weapon presented to her and the student enthusiastically showed it off. Transforming weapons, the hallmark of a Huntress, very good, she thought to herself, if the kid had these on a battlefield, they'd come in handy and more than pull their weight. But, of course, she knew it was worth more to have a talented individual behind the weapon than a powerful weapon itself.

So when Al finally brought the need to improve to her attention, the Professor bristled into a smile, dipping her chin slightly into a nod.

"Well, you definitely came to the right place," she said, not bothering to cover up her accent at the moment. With the students, she usually didn't care about speaking properly, compared to her coworkers or some fancy official. It was a sure sign in her opinion that she was more in her element.

"I've been known as a bit of a marksman myself. Shootin's easy once you get the hang of it. Why don't you put a few rounds downstream there so I can watch you and point out how you can improve your technique? There's always room for it, in my experience," Honeydew stated, then reached over to hit a button, which made the damaged target fall to the floor with a metallic flop, and another one beside it pop up in its place.

"Show me whatcha got, kiddo."

Al was happy to hear Honeydew agree to her request yet got a little nervous as she was asked to show her skill, she was a little concerned that she would buckle under the pressure this put her under.
But she would pull trough!
She could show of to her teacher, or well, a possible teacher.
"Sure, I'll do my best!"
Al said as she grabbed her revolver and took aim at the metal target, both hands grasped the grip as Al faced the target.
BLAM! A first shot found its target and the feedback could be heard as the metal of the target rang out.
BLAM! Al flinched a little as the bullet missed entirely.
Al focused more on the movement of the target, trying to predict where it was going to be instead of where she saw it now.
BLAM! One more hit...
BLAM! Another hit!
Al continued her rhythm and hit another 2 shots out of the 4 remaining she would fire, eh, this was about what she could normally manage.
It wasn't bad, but she could also be happy that she had not cracked under the pressure.
Al showed Honeydew a nod, as she began to reload.
"I should probably show dual wielding as well."

She quickly reloaded the used revolver and grabbed her second one, both arms stretched and facing the target once more, Al just let loose.
BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!
In just four seconds, Al had emptied both 8 shot magazines of Arcum and the target had 10 new dents in it.
The barrels were smoking and Al blew them out as she spun her revolvers and put them back into her cloak.
"So uhm...what do you think Miss Monarch ?"
Al asked, crossing her arms over her chest, it was obvious she was tense, a little nervous even.

Honeydew placed a hand on her hip, wearing that same friendly smile while she waited for Al to perform. She could tell the girl was nervous, which wasn't quite conducive to accuracy, but she figured an authority figure such as herself would be at least a little intimidating. She wasn't a stranger to a student's venerability when being asked to show their skills.

When the masked student started firing, though, her eyes were on her hands. Ultimately the number of hits on the target didn't matter much, guns were meant to fly straight typically, but she knew that accuracy was all about technique. This girl's grip might need some work... Too tight and the muzzle would traverse when the trigger was pulled, too loose and the recoil would destabilize future shots.

She was impressed a bit, though, when Al took out the other gun and unloaded on the target. Those things had quite the rate of fire for revolvers, she had to wonder at the tech that went in to something like that. She was more accustomed to older analogs, she didn't own any Huntsman-grade revolvers, but with such a quick action, she knew that these were pieces of astounding technological creation. That was good, of course, you never knew when you had to mow down a surprise group of Beowolves or something...

When she was finished, Honeydew placed a hand on her own chin, humming a small 'hmmm' while she thought about what she could suggest.

"Not bad, kid. Those are some fast shooters you got there, they'll be perfect in a pinch. But I noticed something when you were shooting just the one. When you hold the grip, you should only use one hand. You can put the other one on your wrist, or at the bottom of your other hand for stability, but you don't want both on there. Reason why is when you pull the trigger, the barrel will drop downward a bit cuz you're holding the gun tighter when using two hands, and it'll make your shots go low. Doesn't matter much with a close target, but if you're trying to hit something at distance, it could spell the difference between scorin' a bullseye and hittin' the dirt. Just an observation." She took a step closer so she could look over one of Al's guns a second more, then looked down range at the target. Still a couple misses, so something was off... Maybe the aiming?

"When you shoot with two, there's a few things you can try. So one thing you want to remember to do is to make sure you're linin' up right. If you think about the two barrels as two corners of a triangle, and the target as the tip of that triangle, that's what you're goin' for. If you're holding them completely parallel to one another, you're just gunna have a few shots go off to the sides, so you gotta point them ever so slightly inward. When you're aiming, imagine a dot right in the center of the two barrels, and aim at that. It takes a bit of getting used to, but practice makes perfect. One more thing, any good grip on the gun won't be too loose or too strong... Rather than keeping your hand clenched on the grip, you wanna keep your elbow locked and your wrist strong to keep the recoil from moving the gun out of place too much, since that makes it harder to reset back into correct shooting position. Too tight of a hold, and you'll have the same problem you got if you use two hands. Make sense?" she explained, holding up one finger which tipped toward the target when she mentioned it. She crossed her arms loosely near her stomach, then, and stepped back so she could lean against the counter where her rifle sat.

"Try not to anticipate the shot too much, too, you wanna keep a good rythm up when you're firing quickly or you might throw yourself off. Give it another try, and try to keep all that in mind. It's a lot, but building the habit now will help you get the hang of it so that it feels natural later on. I'll keep an eye on your feet next, and see if you're standing the right way. Stance is more important than one might think in marksmanship, it's a lot like martial arts... If your center of gravity is off, it could actually effect your shot, believe it or not. Go ahead, though, try it again." She waited expectantly, showing her patience. Teaching was a skill, and if one didn't have the patience for it, it wouldn't help anybody. This time, though, she had a trick up her sleeve that might give her better insight in to Al's performance, she'd be able to see where Al might be slipping up and try to help correct any errors.

Al was expecting some pointers, but she did not expect this much feedback, it was kind of overwhelming to hear all of this and with the comment about her footwork as well.
Was she really making this many mistakes ?
Did her master teach her properly, or did she just fail her master and her training, was she really relying on her semblance this much ?!
Al was just staring at Honeydew for a bit, before looking down at her revolvers, the back at Honeydew.
"Um alright."
Al just replied, taking a deep breath and a few seconds to actually digest the information she had been given.

Al reloaded her revolver as she thought trough what Honeydew had told her.
She aimed her revolver at the target and grabbed the grip with both hands again, but caught herself, instead putting her left hand under her right.
This felt strange.

Al yet made sure to go in the right stance, for more accurate shots like this was important.
She moved her left leg forward, extended her arms, leaned forward slightly and pushed her right leg back a little.
As she tried her best to take aim.

Eight shots rang out through the firing range in rather quick succession, Al wasn't just unloading the clip, but she did hurry just a little, and 6 metallic pings followed.
She was surprised, even with her horrible sight the result was a bit of an improvement, not because she had hit one more shot than before but because it felt a lot easier to actually land the shots, last time there was some luck involved this time it felt more like she had actually earned the hits.

Al giggled, this was a good feeling maybe she'd have more success with dual wielding too?!
Al flipped her revolver to the side making the magazine pop out, which she quickly reloaded with her fingers quickly putting in the bullets one by one.

As she then pulled out the second.
Taking a stable stance and moving her arms all the way forward, yet keeping them locked as Honeydew suggested...well this was sort of what she had been doing before, she just was more tense, eh either way.

Al took aim, but it was very hard to visualize what her teacher had told her.
Al just shook her head, she would just try and shoot the damn target!
Another flurry of shots went of, Al took her time a little to aim for more precise shots but the result...was mostly the same.
Actually it had worsened, Al had missed two more shots than before.
"That could have gone better."
Al said with a sigh as she reloaded her guns and stuffed them back into her cloak.
"Sorry but I have a bit of an issue visualizing this triangle thing...I..."
Al wanted to explain why, maybe Honeydew could help her better if she did, but she stopped herself not wanting to give away what was hindering her.
Well if this didn't work maybe Miss Monarch had some other piece of advice ?
"Would there maybe be some other tip you could give me Miss Monarch ?"
Al asked, tilting her head just a little as she looked up to the professor.

Honeydew placed a hand on her hip and leaned her weight onto one leg, a small smile on her face while Al took her place once more at the firing line. She watched the way she stood, now, noting that after thinking about it for just a short time, she'd pretty much nailed the stance. Now that would let her absorb the recoil better. She remembered when she'd been in weapons training at a younger age, and though Honeydew had taken to guns from an early age and stuck to them like butter on a biscuit, she had began her career as terrible a shot as they come. Of course, she'd never tell anybody this fact, but her scores on a simple range like this had been far worse than what Al was putting out now.

A few shots later, and the majority of them had landed. She could see the ease Al had in lining up her next shot compared to where she'd been before. Now that's what she was talking about! Guns were simply machines, and understanding how they operated was always the key to success. Large, powerful handcannons like these ones had enough kick that if you weren't absorbing the shock right, your sights were going to fly all over the place, but being able to quickly recenter your aim was of course what would save one's life when it really depended on it.

It went about as expected though, when she switched back to dual-wielding. As predicted, her little geometry lesson was a bit too complicated to just drop on the table like this, and she shifted her weight around while she watched, trying to think of a way she could better lay it out without it going over the head of the student. Hmmm, well... Dual wielding wasn't exactly her own expertise area. In fact, she hardly ever did it. There was just no better way to beat the control of handling a single weapon at a time, but that's why she preferred rifles anyway. Still, she'd seen gunslingers like Al mow down entire crowds of Beowolves in the flurry of battle, so the actual firepower brought to bare seemed to be the reason behind practicing such an interesting art.

She looked back at Al with sympathetic eyes when she was finished.

"Ahhh, don't worry about it. You'll get the hang of it eventually. The real key you gotta remember is to aim both guns at the same point. But hey, I'll draw you up a little guide some time and next time we bump into each other, I can just hand that to you, it should have everything you need to remember, that way you can study it in more detail. Then again... Al, was it? Hmhm, I'm pretty sure you're in my class starting next month, and we've got plenty of live fire days on the schedule. As you might imagine, Beacon's got a wide variety of weapons around, so we try to cover everyone's bases throughout the year, so it's guaranteed we'll go over gunslinging and semi-automatic fire plenty." She took a few steps to the other stall next to them and retrieved her rifle. Then, she brought it back over to Al's stall and held it up for her to see.

"You ever try something like this before?" she asked, then held it out toward the student.

"Take a look, if you wanna. My class is all about preparedness in combat, so we'll be learning about all kind of different guns and melee weapons. I'm all about things that could save people in the thick of combat, and knowing how to use any weapon available to you is something that certainly could. I remember one time, our camp was under attack by the Grimm when I was still in my pajamas. Ha! You shoulda seen it, I had to take down a Deathstalker with my toothbrush! I was wearing pink with little ducks... How embarrassing." She sighed softly. Good times. Her field days were well behind her now, but amusing anecdotes like that were always fun to recount.

"You'll learn how to focus on your personal weapon choice from other Professors sooner or later. Me, I like making the new kids sweat a little, get them out of their comfort zone. So, what do you think, wanna try a rifle?" she asked, still holding the gun toward Al.

Al was of course listening intently, trying to remember all the things she's saying, but something did catch her of guard.
Oh, Miss Monarch was going to be one of her professors ?
That was cool, having her as an instructor would surely make her skill with her guns skyrocket!
If she didn't spend too much time practicing with her semblance instead and neglected her weapons again, man, her dad would probably scold her for not using the weapons her crafted carefully.
While Al was thinking, she did not notice that Honeydew had left and then brought her own weapon...that was a big rifle, damn.
"Well, I experimented with some other types of guns before picking these two, so I did try rifles like these before. Can't say that I have actually used in the last 5 years."
Al chuckled a little nervous, but with a little hesitation she did take the rifle. Oof, this thing was much heavier than her revolvers, Al slumped forward a little as she needed to take a second to adjust.
"I'm really not used to these things. But yeah, I'll try my best."
While Al was trying to adjust to the gun as she listened to the story, fighting Grimm in Pajamas, huh ?
"Well, maybe I can find some new weapons to use then, maybe a comb will be part of my deadly arsenal."
Al joked, she was now finally beginning to loosen up around the previously intimidating professor.

Her question did catch her of a little of guard, of course she wanted to use a rifle like this!
"Yeah, full auto sounds fun!"
Al said in an excited tone, as she lifted the gun and disabled the safety, without much hesitation she turned the gun on the target and aimed it.
Al took a stable stance, with her feet planted securely and her body ready to absorb the most of the recoil.
As then, Al pulled the trigger.
No real regard for a trial run, she used the full auto mode from the get go as a rain of lead hailed in on the target, Al was smiling under her mask, not so much as flinching as she kept firing.
Though much like natural hail, this wasn't very accurate as Al was also not nearly strong enough to work against all the rifle's recoil, so only a few of the bullets actually hit, soon the chaos ended with a few clicks coming from Honeydews assault rifle.
"THAT WAS FUN!"
Al shouted, as after this her ears were ringing, she could barely hear her own voice right now, this...kinda hurt.
She put away the rifle, then lifting her hood as she held her ears with her hands, rubbing them a little.
"Ooooow...this hurts."
Al groaned as the ringing got a little better, and with one last shake of her head it got bearable.
"I don't think I will stick to rifles like these, way too loud."
She laughed a little, but did take a note to use guns that weren't this loud...or at least did not have rapid fire.

The Professor watched with amusement as Al took the rifle from her, seems she was excited enough. It was the perfect place to try something out of the ordinary like this, the firing range was exactly for that purpose, practice. It was like she'd said, though, you never knew against the Grimm, sometimes even if you wanted your trusty pistols, the only thing you had was a rifle to shoot and knowing how to use one could save lives. She'd seen many a student get stuck to one weapon so adamantly that they hadn't learned to use any others, but her own brother had taught her the usefulness of learning multiple fighting styles and using your knowledge in practical application against opponents which used the kinds of weapons you'd learned to wield yourself. She'd beaten many a swordsman in duels with her mace, simply because she knew how swords worked.

It was no different for guns, really. Fully automatic fire was inaccurate and emptied the clip quickly. A trained marksman could use that to their advantage in a gunfight, taking the initiative while their enemy was reloading, having missed most of their shots beforehand. Then, one accurate bullet, and that was the end of the gunfight. Though it wasn't that easy when it came to Aura-users, she supposed.

"Remember what I mentioned about recoil," she said offhandedly and turned her eyes to the target while Al lined up the rifle. Then, she unloaded on it, and Honeydew grinned while bullets whizzed around the range. She knew how fun it was to just dump a mag downrange purely for the sake of it. There was something cathartic about it.

When Al was finished, Honeydew took the rifle back and set it on the nearby bench again, giving the girl a thumbs-up.

"Well, most guns are loud. There's some tricks to help with that. Aura protects you from more than just scrapes and bruises. Though, I usually do recommend people get themselves a good pair of ear muffs when they're on the range. Helps you walk out of here and still be able to hear what your friend is saying later, haha... But hey, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll look forward to seeing you in class when we can get a bit more in-depth about things, then I can show you how to use the characteristics of different weapons to your advantage in certain tactical situations. There's a lot you can do with a good pair of revolvers and proper positioning on a battlefield," she said, putting on a smirk and idly thumbing the rifle's safety back in to place. One could never be too careful, after all, even if the thing was empty.

Wait what ?
She could use Aura to protect her ears ?!
Her mentor had never mentioned this!
THAT...she really should not curse Auburn, she probably never asked him, so her sometimes confused teacher had probably just not thought about it.
"I did not know Aura could be used that way, I really need to learn that then, not just for using guns but everyday life really. Until then, my hood and some ear muffs will have to do...hope there are some for faunus."
Al said, more or less talking to herself as she was scratching the chin of her mask and looking down, not really focusing on Honeydew.
Until her gaze snapped back to the teacher.
"I think I will do well to pay attention in your class, Miss Monarch, but there is just one thing..."
Al said as she held her left hand clenched in a fist and lit it on fire with an audible crackling noise, she just wanted to show Miss Monarch what she meant so of course she was not going to use her flames inside the shooting range.
"I usually rely on my semblance during fights, is that a bad idea ? Especially since I'm starting to get the hang of using my guns, and I'm actually having fun with using them."
Al herself was unsure, hell, if she got as good at shooting as she was at wielding fire there was little that could stop her, though she couldn't really 'see' herself doing so.
Maybe Miss Monarch had a good word of advice ?

Honeydew nodded a few times as Al spoke. She wasn't surprised that she hadn't known about the ability of Aura to protect against something such as sound waves. This is why she was a student, not a teacher, right? Then, she used her Semblance, and Honeydew raised her eyebrow. She wasn't surprised by it, but it wasn't really the place... At least she wasn't holding something when the sudden burst of flame lit up their small booth.

"Ah, yes. There are many things that Aura can protect you from. Heat, cold, but most importantly, kinetic energy. You see, sound waves are just pressure waves that travel through the air. You can block them from your body if you know how to stop it. It takes a good deal of control, but it's one of the things I go over in my classes." She nodded curtly once, more, but this time it was inclined toward Al's burning hand.

"The first thing I'll suggest is that you don't do that while holding your weapon... Unless of course it's made to resist it. Most weapons have heat treating, as firing the weapon will cause a buildup of heat. However, the ammunition itself isn't always protected, and let me tell you... If a round goes off in the chamber of your gun, not only is that going to ruin your weapon, but it's going to spray hot metal in many different directions." She reached a thumb up and hooked it into her collar, then pulled the fabric down, exposing a scar that ran along her collarbone.

"See this? I once had a thirty-eight pop in the chamber of a rifle at the range. I wasn't prepared for it, so my Aura wasn't activated, which in hindsight was a bad move. Ya see, it's always good to prepare for the worst no matter where you're at. As long as the possibility of danger is real, keeping it at least at the ready is a good idea," she breathed, then let go of her collar and smiled at Al.

"But if what you wanna know about your Semblance is... How to balance the use of it between attacks, using your weapon and your Semblance in tandem, well... Due to the varying abilities our Students have here at Beacon, there's no real good way to answer this, as it varies person to person. But if you need pointers, I'll be here to help. I'd need a full demonstration, though. Tactics are my specialty, so I can better illuminate when you should use your Semblance, and when you should use your guns, but that's probably a bit much for today. Still, if you're amenable to tutorship, I do council students one-on-one after class hours on some days. I could put you on my list, if you'd like?" Honeydew gave her a big smile, showing her slightly crooked teeth a bit. One of her front teeth had a chip in it, from yet another training accident. She knew how valuable the experiences of her accidents were, though, to the up-and-comers, they could learn from her previous mistakes more than she could, really, in order to prevent something like that happening.
