Physical Description:
Véra is a cat Faunus with black hair and fur. Her skin is rather pale, contrasting starkly with her black hair/fur and dark clothing. She has heterochromatic eyes, with the left eye being green and the right eye being red. Her left eye has a scar over it from an old injury she suffered during her years as a Huntress. She styles her hair in such a way that her bangs fall over her right eye, originally as a way to hide her heterochromia but over time she's come to embrace it and keeps her bangs cut short enough that both eyes are clearly visible. Her feline ears are long enough they add an extra two inches to her height in a relaxed position, and are lined with soft black fur. Her tail is covered in thick, soft fur from base to tip, and she takes great pride in keeping it well groomed. Regardless of what she is wearing, Véra always wears a pair of round silver-rimmed glasses, only removing them when she sleeps or when she has to fight seriously.
Outfit Description:
Véra often wears black and very rarely any other color unless it's to coordinate for a striking appearance. When dressed for battle or just to impress, she tends to wear a mix of black, white, and sometimes a hint of red. Since beginning her teaching career, she has taken to wearing an outfit befitting a duelist. She wears a puffy white shirt with long, flared sleeves underneath a fitted black short-sleeved coat fastened by a red sash and thick leather belt. She wears fitted black trousers with a hole in the back for her tail to slip through. She wears black knee-high leather boots over this designed with a great deal of padding inside to keep her feet comfortable on long hikes or when standing around lecturing for hours, but also reinforced to be equally durible in combat. For combat she wears a pair of black dueling gloves to keep a strong grip on her weapons; the backs of these gloves are stitched with her personal emblem in Wind Dust thread so that she can push enemies away to gain space to regain her composure in a fight. Finally, she completes her outfit with a cape composed of multiple lengths of dark red fabric staggered to stop at different lengths so that the longest hangs just behind her left hip but goes down to her shin, and the shortest just barely passes her right hip; this cape is sewn on the inside with a pattern reminiscent of the mountainous regions of Anima, made with black Gravity Dust to be used as a last resort for defense.
Personality Description:
Véra can be overly responsible at times to the point of making bad decisions or blaming herself too much for failure. Nevertheless she is a very determined, stubborn person and often difficult to persuade once she's made up her mind about something. Once she has a goal in mind, she will do whatever it takes to see it through, even if it requires deceit and a silver tongue. She tries hard to avoid causing unnecessary trouble for herself and her son, so she's avoided going too far with her trickery ever since she moved to Patch. She wants nothing more than to be a good role model to her son and her students. After transferring from teaching at Signal to teaching at Beacon, she is nervous and worried her skill as a teacher will not be up to par for the lofty standards of such a prestigious academy; she needs to (metaphorically) find her footing as a teacher at Beacon.
Backstory Highlights:
Born to a huntsman from Argus, Louis Noire, and his wife Rossa, a Faunus historian born and raised in Kuo Koana, Véra grew up idolizing her parents and the role they played in keeping the kingdom of Mistral running. She learned much about the history of the world from her mother, and she learned how to fight and survive from her father. When she was nine her father began training her to prepare her for Sanctum Academy as Véra wanted to follow in her parents' footsteps. Thanks to this she graduated at the top of her class and earned a place at Haven Academy. During her time at the academy she and her friends formed a combat team, OBSN, and were one of the top teams of their class. When they finally graduated, team OBSN stayed together, working as a team of huntsmen. A couple years after graduation, OBSN came upon a village being ransacked by Grimm. Véra rescued an orphaned child, a young boy named Victor, whom she adopted to raise as her own.

During the battle, one of their team members, Sterling Silver, died at the hands of a Grimm. The death of a friend and a new responsibility in the form of a child prompted Véra to move to her mother's home town of Kuo Koana so that she could raise Victor in safety and peace. She spent the next several years raising Victor while working as a professional huntress before one day she suffered a bad injury to her leg in a fight with a Geist that forced her to retire. The injury healed completely, but she still walked with a limp despite being perfectly fine. In her retirement she replaced her rapier, her trusty weapon for her entire career, with a cane she designed herself to both help her walk with her limp and to help her protect her adopted son. Victor of course wanted to become a huntsman like her so she trained him as her father trained her to prepare him for the huntsmen academies. When he was old enough to enter a preparatory academy, they moved from Kuo Koana to the island of Patch off the shore of Vale so he could attend Signal Academy, and she began teaching there as well to pass on her knowledge to the next generation.

After teaching at Signal for four years, she was given the opportunity to transfer to Beacon as a history teacher and a combat instructor. Since the beginning of the year, Véra has been finding her footing as a combat instructor and substituting for Professor Wednesday to teach history as needed. She has yet to teach any big classes like the more experienced professors, instead opting for simple lectures, practical examinations, and drills to help students hone their fighting style. She tries to give all of her students the attention they need to learn and thrive, and avoids playing favorites. With her combat class she is a firm believer in learning through practice, so she often restricts her lectures to theory and spends most classes having her students spar to hone their skills. When teaching history, she tries to follow Professor Wednesday's lesson plans so the students can learn properly, though she is more than happy to answer any questions that deviate from that plan and teach what she can to any curious and inquisitive students who share her love of history.
Occupation:
Teacher, Beacon
Education:
Véra trained at Sanctum Academy in Argus and then Haven Academy in Mistral. She spent nine years as a professional huntress before retiring to stay in Kuo Koana to train her adopted son how to fight. She then moved with him to Patch and became a teacher at Signal Academy before, a few years later, being invited to teach at Beacon.
Semblance Name:
Heure De Noire
Semblance Description:
By expending Aura, Véra can enhance her natural cat-like reflexes to superhuman levels and speed up her thought processing to the point where she perceives the world in slow motion, allowing her to react swiftly and appropriately to a situation. In addition her senses are boosted as well thanks to her brain processing information faster, allowing her to sense the world around her with more clarity and accuracy, and react to it. The sensory boost is a side effect of her semblance which is an active boost to her brain functions fueled by Aura. Thus the boost only applies while using her semblance rather than passively. While active, these heightened senses come with the risk of sensory overload from too much stimulus, such as a flashbang or an incredibly strong foul odor as a natural result of their enhancement.
Weapon Name:
Canne de Carabasa and Eclair Noire
Weapon Description:
Canne de Carabas (Cane of Carabas)
A metal walking cane with some interesting gimmicks. The top piece is silver, with the front of the cane being a bulbous knob with the imprint of a cat's paw set into the metal, and the rear of the piece being molded into the shape of a cat's paw entirely, complete with paw pads. This piece features a hollowed space in which clockwork mechanisms and a spool of titanium wire are housed; this wire runs through the length of the cane and can extend and contract at the press of a button. This system is controlled by a two part locking trigger housed in the grip and the head of the cane. By manually deactivating the locking mechanism, the trigger can be used to unlock the bladed segments along the length of the cane, allowing it to be used as a whip. The same trigger can be held to retract the whip to its shortest length, making it rigid again either to lock or to prepare another strike. The bladed segments themselves are designed in a way that they are sharp when extended, but combine into a solid metal shaft when locked. Thanks to clever painting there are no visible seam lines on the shaft of the cane, which is painted solid black. The cane ends with a silver diamond-shaped knob at the end with flat faces with thin slits, and a hole in the tip; from these holes come sharp blades and a sharp spike that retract once the cane is locked, allowing the tip of the whip to cut and stab. The spike can be manually extruded by holding the trigger while the cane is locked, allowing it to be used for stabbing.

Eclair Noire (Black Flash)
A rapier with a silver swept-hilt design. The grip is wrapped in black leather, and the pommel of the rapier can be removed to expose a slot for powdered Dust cartridges to be inserted. Hidden within the guard of the rapier is a trigger which siphons Dust from the cartridge and spreads it along the blade, allowing it to be engulfed in elemental power.
Other Gear:
Vera wears a leather belt with padded pouches that safely protect and container vials of powdered Dust to load into her rapier. She only uses this when she needs to fight seriously.
Fighting Style:
Véra will normally use her cane for fighting unless she has to get serious, in which case she will use both of her weapons together. With her cane she uses fast strikes, targeting joints and weak spots while dodging attacks. As she fights she tends to get faster as she forgets about her limp and moves normally. Against armored opponents she likes to use both hands with her cane to dent armor with blunt force. Against less armored opponents or those who keep their range, she'll activate her bladed whip and fight from a distance just out of melee range, but when she fights like this she abandons defense because her cane is not able to block attacks for her, so she likes to move around to avoid being an easy target. When she is forced to get serious, she uses her rapier in her right hand and her cane in her left, using the rapier as her primary weapon. She is a practiced duelist so she often goes on the defensive with the rapier, parrying and countering without leaving herself open. Most of her initiated attacks will be with her cane/whip, which will be less accurate due to being her off-hand weapon.
Strengths:
*Catlike reflexes and years of experience as a professional Huntress have honed her fighting ability to a near-elite level.
*Véra is a master of footwork and deception in battle, using clever misdirects and constant movement to avoid danger and give herself an advantage.
Weaknesses:
*Psychosomatic limp
*Constantly worried about her son
*Nervous about teaching since this is her first year
*Extreme explosive distrust of cucumbers, specifically ones placed behind her when she is not looking. When she notices it she will react violently, usually jumping to the ceiling (or higher if outdoors) and running away, or throwing hands with a vegetable if fleeing is not an option.
Likes:
Adopted son (Vee), teaching future huntsmen, history, tuna, girls
Dislikes:
Dogs, Grimm, Vee's delinquent tendencies, cucumbers
Fun Facts:
